Memotone Live 2010: Piece for the Dorset Music Awards.

Here is a piece I put together in the last week for the first round of the Dorset Music Awards which was last night. It went down well and I was very happy with my performance. A mix of live instrumentation, samples and effects but as always it's all my own sounds.
Enjoy!

All the best,
Will/memotone

  1. Nice! I wish I could have gone to see your performance. I'll ask my brother if he managed to stop by, though I doubt he did because my sister was visiting him. Next time I'll be the sister who visits him and we can go see you together. What was the competetion like? Any other good bands? I went to the Dorset music awards final last year with Phil and Adam, when Achilles won all that stuff; they were by far the best there.
Keep us all posted about your progress through the music award rounds and performance dates etc. Good luck!

  2. It was good fun! and the performance went really well. However I did not get through to the next round. I was probably a little too introvert for the likes of a more lively band based compotition. I did hear one good band, but the rest was shouty adolecent rock that is not to my taste. But has its place. So sadly you will not get to see me play there again. But maybe I will be playing some gigs soon enough! Thankyou for the luck anyway. xx

  4. That sucks in some ways, but in others it does not. When you have something very original then it can take some time to wait for other people to catch up. I think that if you were making music that was popular and gained everybody’s attention right away then you would not be pushing yourself or your craft. I hope you play some gigs closer to home. I will always remember your performance at the Abbey in Shaftesbury. The location suited the sound very well. It gave me goosebumps I liked it so much. More gigs in nice places like that would be awesome (hint hint)

I am glad to have reminded you of Aesop Rock. I had also forgotten his music, a colleague let me rip his copy of None Shall Pass about 2 years ago and I ripped it badly so I had no idea what the songs were or who they were by and I didn't really listen to it. Then a track came up on random recently and my ears pricked up. This is amazing! I love it! So I downloaded loads more.
Aesop Rock is a fellow who raised a few eyebrows in his chosen musical field. I think many hip hop people didn't really get it for a while; the lyricism, the monotone cadence, the abstract concepts. He’ll never be mainstream, but folks such as him, and you, will ensure things stay fresh and encourage new styles, injecting gradual and needed change into the parallel world of the mainstream that you silently feed. I’m not sure that makes sense. I am tired. I will go sleep.
